NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2008
R. Wy. Bro. Dennis Slights completed his 1st year as our Ruler when leading the AGM in York on June 14th and where he appointed his Officers for this year.
Dennis continued his theme of friendly enjoyment and all those attending left well pleased and with a smile on their faces.
The meeting was reasonably attended by Guests from Sister Provinces, but a number of N&E Senior Grand Officers were unable to attend. Even Malcolm Grainge, our 1st Provincial
Recorder, was unable to attend for the first time. Many other members of the Province were unable to attend making the attendance the lowest for some years.
R. Wy. Bro. Dennis has given the meeting some thought and after discussion with his Deputy and members of the Provincial Committee has decided to change the date to the 3rd Saturday in June, one week later, for 2009 and ensuing years.
This now avoids the annual clash with Grand College in the Order of Knight Templar Priests which has caused problems for some of our members who need to attend both. Also many of our invited Guests had to apologise to us because they had to be at Birmingham for KTP
Yes the Grand Supreme Ruler included, M.Wy. Bro. Peter Glyn Williams is a high ranking
member of KTP.
This date was traditionally the AGM meeting of East Midlands, but was abandoned by them this year because of clashes in their immediate region.
Our Past PGSR R. Wy. Bro. Roger T. Parker held the distinction of having served the Province as Deputy and SR since September 1997, as well as being the first SR of the Province to have served a full term, and even an extension to his Patent.
Roger has now received his reward by being appointed Provincial Grand Master for the Channel Islands in the Royal Order of Scotland. He took charge from July 1st this year. Roger had held high office in the Royal Order both in England and the Channel Islands.
The Editor was invited by Roger to Guernsey when Lord Elgin officially installed him on
September 13th.,but has had to decline due to being Most Wise Sovereign of AYCR 68 Rose Croix and performing ritual at the Provincial meeting in York the same day.
Delegations from this Province continue both in England, Wales and Scotland, with R. Wy. Bro. Dennis continuing Roger Parkers popularity throughout the Order.
The Provincial Officers Lunch inaugurated in 2005, has been a huge success, with full houses at Pickering, Hornsea & Bedale and a good number at York. The date so far has been the 3rd Sunday in May but 2009 has not yet been decided. Guisborough and Drifield have yet to be visited, the former having had catering difficulties and Drifield clashes that day with Lady Masons (I) who meet the 3rd Sunday in May.
The Annual Provincial Meeting is now hosted by 2 Conclaves at a time, rather than the 1 Conclave as previously.
2008 was hosted by Centenary Conclave 347 and Meridian Conclave 394 -
2009 will be hosted by Roseberry Conclave 442 and Drifelt Conclave 179.
The meetings of the SR Conclave have been revamped to 2nd Tuesday in March and 2nd Wednesday in August as previously, but the (I) has been changed to August. This is because many senior
members are involved in Grand Mark & Craft on 2nd Wed. in June.
It is again stressed that membership of this Conclave has a bearing on appointments and promotions in Grand Conclaves. The move from 5 to 6 Conclaves in 2004 increased our allocation of appointments and promotions, and it is felt that those members who set up this SR Conclave should be rewarded.
Or to give the correct title “The Royal Order Of Masonic Knights Of The Scarlet Cord” has grown phenomenally since the Grand Supreme Ruler decided to revive an Order which ceased operation in 1929. The Order consists of six Grades as follows:- I elected to be Ostiaraii, II chosen to be Lectores III promised to be Fellows, IV preferred as members of the Court Of Assistants, V dedicated as High Priests and VI installed as Knights.
Already over 36 members of this Province have become members, most 1st or 2nd Grade so far ,with our PGSR to be given the 3rd Grade with his contempories in October. The PGSR with the support of many of those Scarlet cord members is to Petition the GSR for a Conclave of Secret Monitors in this Province solely to perform the Grades of the Scarlet Cord. Indeed the Petition is already in the hands of the Editor, so stake your claim asap. Already some Provinces have Founded their Conclave, others are in the pipeline. Our Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler has been asked to Consecrate one such Conclave in another Province shortly, this will be announced in Conclave & on the Website.
Following the success last year of a Provincial Circular to Secretaries, this Newsletter will hopefully be distributed to all members, with the help of Conclave Secretaries of course.
It is also published on the Provincial Website at www.osm-neyorks.com please use this wonderful site to make comments, sell regalia, have a story published, report your Conclave meetings, etc.
Once again we have exceeded all expectation with seven appointments/promotions in Grand
Conclave this year. The Grand meeting is to be held in Birmingham on 13th. November.
Promotions are:-
John Francis Dunnington to PGG, Alan Dodd to P.Dep.G. Registrar, Ron Hargreaves and Gordon Macfall to PGV. John becomes R.Wy. Ron and Gordon become V.Wy. Alan remains V.Wy but becomes senior Very Wy. in the Province, a rare rank last held by George Cooper.
